Response Letter - The Bills Committee on Supplementary Medical Professions (Amendment) Bill 2025
On 9 April 2025, our President wrote a letter to the Members of the Bills Committee on Supplementary Medical Professions (Amendment) Bill 2025 of the Legislative Council in response to the said bill submitted to the council recently, which proposes a new legal framework for allowing patients to access physiotherapy services without a doctor’s referral under specified circumstances.
In the letter, we have expressed our support for the proposed framework that allows patients to access physiotherapy services without a doctor's referral under specific circumstances and stated that this initiative is crucial for improving patient access to timely and effective care.
However, we also urged the committee to consider three important points to ensure the successful implementation of this reform.
